PDF and Word are built differently: a PDF describes a fixed page, while a DOCX describes editable document content. A good conversion therefore aims to recover useful text and reading order rather than pretending every PDF layout can be rebuilt perfectly.
1. Choose the PDF
Open PDFForge and select PDF to Word from the Pro tools. Choose the PDF you want to convert. If the document is password protected, PDFForge asks for the password before it opens the file.
2. Choose the pages to convert
PDFForge selects all pages by default, but you can enter a page range and export only the pages you need. This is useful when a large PDF contains only a few pages that need editing.
3. Decide whether OCR fallback is needed
Normal digital PDFs usually contain text that can be extracted directly. Scanned PDFs can contain only page images. On Android, PDFForge can use an optional OCR fallback when a selected page has little or no extractable text.
4. Convert and save the DOCX
PDFForge reads the selected pages, builds editable Word paragraphs, adds page breaks between PDF pages and saves the result as a .docx file. The output uses approximate text sizing and likely headings to make the document easier to edit.
5. Check the Word document
Open the DOCX and check the parts that matter before relying on it. Complex tables, multiple columns and highly designed PDF layouts can need manual tidying because Word uses a different layout model.
What the current converter preserves
- Editable text from selected PDF pages
- Reading order where the PDF text structure allows it
- Page breaks between converted pages
- Approximate text size and likely heading emphasis
- OCR-recognised text on supported scanned pages when fallback is enabled
What may need tidying
- Complex tables and multi-column page layouts
- Exact positioning and pixel-perfect page appearance
- Images and other non-text page content
- OCR text from low-quality or difficult scans
Common questions
Can I convert only certain pages of a PDF to Word?
Yes. PDFForge lets you enter a page range before conversion, so you can export only the pages you need.
Can a scanned PDF be converted to Word?
PDFForge can use an optional OCR fallback on Android when a selected page has little or no extractable text. The recognised text is then used in the DOCX output.
Will tables, columns and images look exactly the same in Word?
No. PDF and Word use different document models. PDFForge focuses on editable text, reading order and approximate text hierarchy; complex layouts, tables, columns and images may need manual tidying.
Can a password-protected PDF be converted?
Yes, if the correct password is supplied and successfully verified before conversion.
